Heading back "Home" to the Philippines

Finally the day arrived...it only took:
3 years in the making
6 college girlfriends from
6 different cities across
3 different countries and
up to 12 years since some of us last saw each other.

This was the Big Plan for 2012, a trip back to the Philippines, Boracay specifically, to celebrate all of us (well most of us at least) turning 40!

Incidentally it had also been 6 years since my family and I last visited the Philippines so I couldn't miss the chance to take them on this journey too. After all Cat and Bee were now old enough to take in and remember some of the stuff I wanted to expose them too.

We had 4 weeks to pack in a lot of stuff:
- a jeepney ride, tricycle ride and visit to the local Alabang wet market
- volunteer work feeding the children of Ulingan, Tondo - an impoverished community that sits on a dumpsite where residents scavenge the garbage for wood and nails to be sold to the surrounding charcoal factories
- a visit to Hubby's old family beach hangout in Tali, Batangas
- a side trip to the Church in Tagaytay where Hubby and I tied the knot 15 years ago
- a kiddie party 'Manila-style' for little Mig who turned 3 on this trip
- a kid-free, hubby-free week with the girls on a 'not so' little tropical island called Boracay
- a visit to Hubby's hometown of Dumaguete and Bais
- lots of visits to other nostalgic places to show our kids such as our old house and neighbourhood, our primary, high school and University, the old Alabang Country Club hangout
- and of course a constant barrage of nostalgic eating!

We even managed to squeeze in dental work for some nice, new pearly whites! I think we got the holiday and dental work done for the same price we would have paid just for the dental work in Sydney!
